Verawood Bowl

Verawood is my favorite wood.   It grows in various sub-species from Mexico to South America.  This particular veriaty starts out a light brown and then turns this green color after exposure to light.   The wood is very dense and heavy so that the bowl has a satisfying heft.  It is 4.125 by 9.75 inches and finished with a tung oil/urithane mixture.  The bottom of the bowl is slighty dished so that it sits level.  Could be used to contain dry materials.

Lodge Pole Pine Bowls

The staining (the black areas.) in this is a result of the beetles that killed the tree.   There are whole mountain sides of it out in Colorado, and it is just going to waste.   These are translucent when held up to the light.  This one is 10" by 3".

The finish that I used was mostly Natural Watco Danish oil with about 30 percent Mineral Spirits added.   I guess I soaked it for more than 48 hours on five seperate occasions.   I baked it twice in a 150 degree oven for 15-20 minutes after the last soak had dried for three days.   That finished the curing process in a hurry.   I put a matt urithane on top.

I currently have eight of these all approximately the same size, though the base may vary slightly.

Ash bowl

A natural-edged, wormy Ash bowl.  I picked the packed holes out with a dental pick.   About 4 by 6 inches and finished with urithane.

 Stave style Segmented Bowl

This bowl is made of Cherry, Purpleheart, and maple venier accents and is finished with urithane.  The sides are only about a sixteenth of an inch thick and is fairly delicate.  It is 9.5 by 3.5 inches.

Honey Locust Bowl with worm holes

This bowl was the maximum witdth that I could get out of this particular log.  It was turned green and has an indented base with three beads on the rim for decoration.  It has been turned to about a quarter inch wall.  It is 20 by 9 inches.
